Friends of the San Juans
Friends of the San Juans (FOSJ) is a grassroots collective of backcountry enthusiasts committed to providing avalanche awareness and education for winter backcountry users in the San Juan Mountains. Founded in 2014 by a handful of backcountry riders, we are a non-profit 501(c)3 tax-exempt charitable organization managed by both a volunteer executive board and an advisory committee of avalanche professionals. Our funding comes from generous donations by our members and our local supporting partners.
Joe Philpott and Peter Carver Avalanche Scholarship Fund
The Joe Philpott and Peter Carver Avalanche Scholarship aims to bring awareness and education to the backcountry skiing setting.
We offer scholarships to AIARE Certified Level 1 classes in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. Our recipients are dedicated to the community and they show this through service, volunteering, and using their education to make wise and informed decisions in the backcountry.
